Nancy Guthrie\u2019s suspected kidnapper made a grave error when breaking into the elder\u2019s Tucson, Ariz., home on Feb. 1, according to an expert.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department released previously unavailable images and videos taken on a Google Nest camera mounted next to Guthrie\u2019s front door, which show a disguised suspect tampering with the device before ultimately disconnecting and taking it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cameras will record to the servers as long as they have internet. According to Nest, without a subscription, usually they are quickly overwritten by next images. But if the camera is disconnected, there should be nothing to overwrite on the server,\u201d the Kay & Associates founder told us.<\/p>\n
Essentially, if someone does not have a subscription to the service, it\u2019s almost like a livestream being sent to the server: new images override previous images.<\/p>\n
However, because this was the last image before the suspected kidnapper disconnected the camera, it\u2019s the last thing that was sent to the server and therefore able to be recovered.<\/p>\n
Kay branded the suspected kidnapper, whose weapon appeared to be holstered to their pants incorrectly, a \u201crookie.\u201d<\/p>\n
The newly released pictures and clips show an unknown, masked and armed individual \u2014 who was also carrying a backpack \u2014 approaching Guthrie\u2019s front door and fidgeting with the camera.<\/p>\n
The individual turned back around to grab a handful of foliage on the ground, which they then used to try to cover the camera.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie\u2019s home that may have been lost, corrupted or inaccessible due to a variety of factors \u2014 including the removal of recording devices,\u201d read an accompanying statement authorities released to the press, which noted that the footage \u201cwas recovered from residual data located in backend systems.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement continued, \u201cWorking with our partners \u2014 as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie\u2019s front door the morning of her disappearance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her daughter Savannah Guthrie took to Instagram to post the chilling photos and videos shortly after they were released.<\/p>\n
\u201cSomeone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home,\u201d the \u201cToday\u201d show host, 54, begged, adding, \u201cWe believe she is still alive.\u201d<\/p>\n
Amid the desperate search for Nancy, 84, multiple ransom notes were sent to news organizations describing demands for a large bitcoin payment along with deadlines and specific details about her and her house.<\/p>\n
On Friday of last week, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department announced that they were \u201cactively inspecting\u201d a \u201cnew message regarding Nancy Guthrie.\u201d<\/p>\n
The note demanded $6 million in bitcoin and set a deadline for 5 p.m. MT Monday.<\/p>\n
After the deadline came and went with no sign of Nancy and no payment, an FBI spokesperson said in a statement that the Guthrie family had not had \u201cany continued communication\u201d with the matriarch\u2019s abductor.<\/p>\n
Since the \u201cnightmare\u201d began, Savannah and her siblings \u2014 sister Annie Guthrie, 56, and brother Camron Guthrie, 61 \u2014 have posted several Instagram videos pleading with their mom\u2019s captor and agreeing to pay for her return.<\/p>\n
On the evening of Jan. 31, Nancy \u2014 who lives alone \u2014 took an Uber to Annie and her husband Tommaso Cioni\u2019s house for dinner, the Pima County sheriff previously said, noting that Cioni dropped her back off later that night.<\/p>\n
She was reported missing the next day after she failed to show up for a church service.<\/p>\n
