A man has been released after being detained by police in connection with the kidnapping case of\u00a0Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of\u00a0Today<\/em>\u00a0co-host\u00a0Savannah Guthrie.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department confirmed in a statement obtained by PEOPLE and shared\u00a0on social media\u00a0that deputies had \u201cdetained a subject during a traffic stop south of Tucson\u201d in Arizona earlier that day.<\/p>\n

The sheriff\u2019s department then said in a further statement obtained by PEOPLE, \u201cInvestigators have completed their search of a\u00a0property in Rio Rico. Nancy Guthrie investigation is ongoing. No further details at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s since been reported by\u00a0CNN,\u00a0CBS News\u00a0and\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0that the man detained for questioning has been released.<\/p>\n

According to CBS News, the man detained has spoken out, stating that he only wants to be identified as Carlos. He said he was detained after a traffic stop, per the outlet.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters early on Wednesday, Feb. 11 outside his home in Rio Rico, Ariz., the man said, \u201cI didn\u2019t do anything \u2026 I\u2019m innocent,\u201d per a video posted\u00a0on X\u00a0by CBS reporter Andres Gutierrez.<\/p>\n

He also said he allegedly doesn\u2019t know who Savannah Guthrie or her mom Nancy is, according to the clip.<\/p>\n

A Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department spokesperson didn\u2019t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.<\/p>\n

Nancy was last seen at her Tucson home on Jan. 31. The Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department, along with the FBI, then launched a massive investigation into her disappearance, with Sheriff Chris Nanos saying at a Feb. 3 press conference that authorities believe she\u00a0was taken against her will.<\/p>\n

Nanos later confirmed that\u00a0blood found on the exterior porch\u00a0of Nancy\u2019s home matches her DNA. He has also said that she is currently without her daily medication needed to survive. No suspects or persons of interest had been identified in Nancy\u2019s kidnapping as of Wednesday, Feb. 11.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the FBI released\u00a0surveillance photos and video\u00a0of an \u201carmed\u201d individual at Nancy\u2019s front door on the morning of her kidnapping.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0timeline\u00a0previously released by the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department outlines Nancy\u2019s last known movements. Her doorbell camera disconnects around 1:47 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, and at 2:12 a.m., the software detects a person. Then at 2:28 a.m., Nancy\u2019s pacemaker app disconnects from her phone. Her family then reported her missing to police around noon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe she is still alive. Bring her home,\u201d Savannah, 54, wrote on Instagram alongside the new photos. In recent days, the journalist has posted\u00a0multiple videos\u00a0pleading for her mother\u2019s safe return and acknowledging the\u00a0alleged ransom notes\u00a0being investigated by authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe received your message and we understand,\u201d Savannah said in a\u00a0Feb. 7 video\u00a0on Instagram. \u201cWe beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.\u201d<\/p>\n

An apparent ransom note sent to local Arizona television stations\u00a0KOLD\u00a0and\u00a0KGUN\u00a0demanded $6 million in bitcoin by\u00a05 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9\u00a0\u2014 a deadline that has now passed. It is unclear if any payment was made as the FBI did not disclose that information in a statement provided to PEOPLE just after 5 p.m. Monday.<\/p>\n

An earlier deadline of Thursday, Feb. 5, which demanded $4 million, also passed without any payment being made, sources\u00a0previously told PEOPLE.<\/p>\n
