A cousin raised her hand uncomfortably.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat day, I asked you how much I owed you, and Ryan said nothing, that it was on him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYes,\u201d I replied. \u201cIt was on him, using my money.\u201d<\/p>\n
The silence grew heavier.<\/p>\n

Aunt Susan crossed herself.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, sweetheart.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not because of you all,\u201d I said, looking at them. \u201cIt\u2019s for me. For years, you ate here thinking Ryan was supporting this household. Today, you can still believe him if you want. Just ask him to pay for what he promised.\u201d<\/p>\n
