She’s not going to read the fine print if the kids are running around the living room.

The endgame was to manipulate me into voluntarily signing into the home, leverage the power of attorney to liquidate my Seattle property, and funnel the real estate profits directly into an account Lucas controlled.

If I put up a fight, their backup plan was to file for emergency conservatorship, arguing to a judge that I had lost my mental faculties and couldn’t make sound choices.

Samantha had typed back:

This really feels wrong, guys.

Lucas immediately shot back:

Then don’t expect a third of the payout.

Samantha had gotten in the car anyway.

David formally reported the forged signature to the authorities and introduced me to Katherine Brooks, a fierce litigator who specialized in elder law and conservatorship battles.

True to the leaked emails, my children executed their threat within weeks.

They filed an injunction asking a family court judge to name Lucas as my legal conservator, arguing that my sudden installation of security cameras, the drastic changes to my will, and locking them out on Christmas Eve were clear evidence of paranoia and cognitive decline.

The legal battle dragged on for four grueling months.

I willingly submitted to an independent psychiatric evaluation and passed with flying colors, proving I was entirely competent to manage my own affairs.

During the final court hearing, Katherine submitted Thomas’s warning letter, the forged signature documents, the damning email transcripts, the audited trust logs, and the crisp security footage of Lucas violently trying to scale my gate like a common criminal.

Facing perjury, Samantha finally cracked.

She tearfully testified that Victoria and Lucas had orchestrated the entire scheme to blindside me with the legal papers. She confessed that she had only gone along with it because she was terrified of being written out of the payout.

The judge threw out their petition with prejudice, ruling it a malicious filing in bad faith, and ordered my three children to cover every cent of my attorney fees. The forged authorization was handed over to the district attorney for potential criminal charges.

On the courthouse steps, Victoria tried to intercept me.

“Mom, we really just wanted you in a safer environment.”

“Then why were you planning to bury a power of attorney inside a stack of fake holiday updates?” I asked coldly.

Her expression crumbled into defeat.

“We were terrified you were going to leave the estate to total strangers.”

And there was the ugly truth.

They hadn’t been losing sleep over losing their mother.

They had been losing sleep over losing my net worth.

“You were so obsessively terrified of what you might lose when I died, that you completely destroyed what you had while I was still breathing,” I told her.

Lucas stepped up, insisting that Thomas had built that trust specifically for the family’s legacy
