Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), the chamber\u2019s No. 2 Republican and top deputy to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), came out in support of Trump in a statement to Fox News, \u201cwhile a prominent Koch-backed group dropped its funding for Nikki Haley,\u201d Just the News reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201dThe primary results in South Carolina make clear that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee for president in this year\u2019s pivotal presidential election,\u201d Thune said. \u201cThe choice before the American people is crystal clear: It\u2019s Donald Trump or Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former president also praised the fact that Charles and David Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity Action, a group that supports free markets, stopped funding Haley\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n

He wrote on his Truth Social platform:<\/p>\n

\u201cAMERICAN\u2019S FOR NO PROSPERITY JUST ANNOUNCED THAT THEY ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTING NIKKI \u201cBRAINDEAD\u201d (BIRDBRAIN?) HALEY. CHARLES KOCH AND HIS GROUP GOT PLAYED FOR SUCKERS RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In an email that was first reported by Politico, \u00a0AFP Action\u2019s Emily Seidel explained to the organization\u2019s staff why it was ending financial support for former UN ambassador and South Carolina governor, saying that the group didn\u2019t believe that \u201cany outside group can make a material difference to widen her path to victory.\u201d<\/p>\n
