<\/figure>\n\u201cPeople just think it means you can\u2019t walk, eat, or work.\u201d \u201cYou were sent out to pasture when you were very young and told, \u2018You\u2019re done, you\u2019re retired.\u2019 We\u2019re not,\u201d she said, adding, \u201cWe\u2019re full of life and have such a different outlook on it.\u201d We are people who want to work, enjoy life, and keep going.<\/p>\n
Before she died, Doherty really wanted to bring attention to and money for cancer research. She also wanted to show that even though they have terminal cancer, people like her are still unique and have a lot to offer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy me?\u2019\u201d After asking \u201cWhy did my cancer come back?\u201d She said, \u201cWhen you ask yourself, \u2018Why am I in stage 4?\u2019 you start to look for the bigger picture in life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her honest comments were similar to what she said in an interview with Amy Robach that aired on Good Morning America in 2020. In that interview, she was also very realistic.
\n\u201cI definitely have days where I say, \u2018Why me?\u2019\u201d At the time, Doherty told Robach about how her health was getting worse. When that happens, I think, \u201cWhy not me? One more person? Not only me, but who else deserves this?\u2019 Of course, none of us do.\u201d<\/p>\n
During her interview with Robach, Doherty first talked about how her breast cancer had come back as stage 4 after being in remission.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to be promoted to stage 4 in a few days or a week.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m here because my cancer came back,\u201d Doherty said on Good Morning America. \u201cI don\u2019t believe I\u2019ve thought about it. Numerous ways make it a difficult pill to swallow.<\/p>\n
Austin Green said, \u201cShannen is definitely setting a good example and showing people that you can be a good person even when things are hard.\u201d \u201cCertainly she is; she\u2019s a wonderful person and an inspiration.\u201d<\/p>\n
Doherty\u2019s 2023 PEOPLE interview was the most moving because it showed how much she loved life, how thankful she was to be able to wake up and spend time with her family, friends, and dog, and how hopeful she was about the future.<\/p>\n
She told People, \u201cMy best memory is still to come.\u201d \u201cI worship. Every morning and every night, I thank God and pray for the things that are important to me. It makes me feel spiritual and connected to a higher power. \u201cBelief is my mantra.\u201d<\/p>\n She said that having cancer had made her more aware of life and the spaces around her.<\/p>\n You feel so lucky and aware of everything, even though it sounds corny and crazy.
