Former Meet the Press<\/em> host Chuck Todd appears to be plotting his exit<\/a> from NBC News, holding private discussions with rival media organizations as his relationship with the network continues to deteriorate. According to Semafor<\/a><\/em>, Todd has been meeting with \u201ctop editors and leaders from other media organizations\u201d to explore \u201cpotential roles outside the network both in broadcast and digital media\u201d ahead of his contract\u2019s expiration later this year. The veteran political analyst\u2019s departure would end a nearly two-decade tenure at NBC News that began in 2007.<\/p>\n

The news follows Todd\u2019s 2023 replacement by Kristen Welker<\/a> as Meet the Press <\/em>host after nine years of helming the program. While NBC News promised the change would lead to expanded opportunities for Todd, TV Insider<\/em><\/a> reports he has maintained a \u201cfar less visible presence\u201d across NBC News and MSNBC since stepping down.<\/p>\n

Tensions between Todd and the network recently erupted over NBC<\/a>\u2018s controversial hiring of former Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel. During a March 2024 Meet the Press<\/em> appearance, Todd publicly challenged the decision, citing \u201ccredibility issues\u201d and declaring, \u201cThere\u2019s a reason why there are a lot of journalists at NBC News uncomfortable with this, because many of our professional dealings with the RNC over the last six years have been met with gaslighting, have been met with character assassination.\u201d<\/p>\n

Todd further criticized the network\u2019s decision to have Welker interview McDaniel as a paid contributor. On social media<\/a>, he emphasized, \u201cThe issue isn\u2019t about ideology, it\u2019s about basic truth. Those trying to make this a left-right issue are being intentionally dishonest. This is about whether honest journalists are supposed to lend their credibility to someone who intentionally tried to ruin ours.\u201d The backlash ultimately led NBC to reverse McDaniel\u2019s hiring<\/a>.<\/p>\n
