President Donald Trump announced on social media over the weekend that he is planning to travel to Fort Knox, Kentucky, to ensure that the stockpile of gold that has long been reported to be stored at the military base is actually there.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re gonna go into Fort Knox to make sure the gold is there,\u201d Trump said in a clip posted to X.<\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0U.S. Mint<\/a>, the last time a gold vault was inspected by individuals other than authorized personnel was during President Franklin D. Roosevelt\u2019s visit to the Bullion Depository in 1943 \u2014 82 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know that? We\u2019re gonna go into Fort Knox. Do you know about that?\u201d the president added, speaking to reporters, per the clip posted online.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the things we do want to look \u2014 I mean, we hope everything\u2019s fine with Fort Knox, but we\u2019re gonna go to Fort Knox, the fabled Fort Knox, to make sure the gold is there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere would the gold have gone?\u201d a reporter asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the gold isn\u2019t there, we\u2019re gonna be very upset,\u201d the president replied.<\/p>\n
