He casually mentioned his parents or sister were \u201cdropping by\u201d which really meant I was expected to clean, cook, and entertain with almost no notice.<\/p>\n

I went along with it for a while. However, not this time.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

It was a peaceful Saturday morning, and I was enjoying some downtime when he walked in with his usual smug grin and announced, \u201cMy family\u2019s coming over in four hours. Just a small thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Half-cleaned rooms, screaming kids, a burnt frozen pizza on the table, and my frazzled husband desperately trying to make store-bought cheesecake look fancy.<\/p>\n

His face when he saw me? Priceless. \u201cWhere have you been?\u201d he gasped.<\/p>\n

I poured a glass of wine, and said sweetly, \u201cYou told me to go to the store. So I went.\u201d<\/p>\n

That night, I didn\u2019t lift a finger. His mom looked judgmental, but I didn\u2019t care.<\/p>\n

It was the first time I didn\u2019t run myself ragged for someone else\u2019s plans.<\/p>\n

Later, he tried to fight. \u201cYou embarrassed me,\u201d he snapped.<\/p>\n
