State of Mexico. – On Wednesday, November 20, a serious multiple collision was reported on the Mexico–Querétaro Highway, specifically at kilometer marker 059+000 in Huehuetoca, State of Mexico. The accident quickly drew the attention of drivers and authorities, as it involved a large trailer and several smaller vehicles. According to early reports, the trailer driver was unable to stop in time, which led to a chain reaction of impacts. The force of the crash caused the heavy vehicle to swerve and end up lying across the main lanes of the road. As a result, all three north–south lanes were blocked, generating an immediate and partial closure of this important highway, one of the busiest routes connecting the capital with central and northern states.

 

Causes of the accident and traffic conditions
Preliminary information indicates that the incident took place while the trailer was heading toward Mexico City. When approaching the Jorobas intersection, the driver attempted to reduce speed but was unable to brake properly. In the process, the vehicle first crashed into a roadside bank, which destabilized the trailer, and then collided violently with five cars and a pickup truck that were circulating in the same direction.

Authorities on site noted that the day’s constant rainfall had left the asphalt wet and slippery, reducing tire grip and increasing stopping distances. These adverse weather conditions are believed to have contributed to the crash. However, officials clarified that a full investigation will be carried out to determine whether mechanical failure, excessive speed, or human error also played a role in the accident.

Injuries and emergency response
Within minutes, paramedic units and Civil Protection personnel arrived at the scene to provide assistance. Several drivers and passengers involved suffered minor injuries, mainly bruises and light shocks caused by the impact. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were reported, which authorities described as “miraculous” given the number of vehicles involved and the size of the trailer. Even so, medical staff recommended that the injured be transported to a hospital for more detailed evaluations, in order to rule out internal injuries that might not have been immediately visible.

Traffic police established a safety perimeter to prevent further accidents, as the blocked lanes generated long lines of vehicles stretching several kilometers. Drivers were urged to remain patient and take alternate routes while heavy machinery worked on removing the trailer and clearing the debris left on the highway.

Safety recommendations for drivers
In light of the incident, road authorities once again emphasized the importance of driving with caution, especially in rainy conditions. They recommended maintaining greater distances between vehicles, reducing speed when approaching intersections such as Jorobas, and ensuring that brakes and tires are in optimal condition before traveling on highways. They also urged trailer and cargo truck drivers to conduct constant maintenance checks, given the risks posed by their weight and size.

This accident, though not resulting in loss of life, serves as a strong reminder of how quickly an unforeseen event can escalate on highways with heavy traffic flow. For now, the injured are receiving medical attention, and the corresponding reports will be used to determine the official cause of the accident in the coming days.
