Former FBI Director Christopher Wray is under federal investigation for alleged obstruction of justice, false statements, and mishandling of classified materials, according to The Wall Street Journal. The probe, now expanding across multiple jurisdictions, focuses on Wray’s leadership during the later Biden years and his handling of politically sensitive matters, including the Durham investigation into the origins of the Trump–Russia probe.

Subpoenas have been issued to former senior FBI officials, and investigators are reportedly looking into whether Wray or his team destroyed or concealed evidence tied to the Durham investigation. Sources told CNN that officials are examining the use of “burn bags” on the FBI’s seventh floor—home to top leadership—where documents may have been improperly destroyed.

Wray is also accused of misleading Congress about the FBI’s awareness of foreign election interference. In 2020 and 2021, he testified there was no coordinated fraud effort, but a recently declassified FBI report—turned over by current FBI Director Kash Patel—suggests China produced counterfeit U.S. driver’s licenses to facilitate mail-in ballot fraud during the 2020 election.

Under new leadership, the FBI has undergone significant restructuring. Director Patel has dismissed top officials, cut ties with groups like the ADL and SPLC, and launched financial investigations into extremist networks. Wray has not publicly responded to the allegations.
