Former President Donald Trump is against the proposed idea of pressuring the Republican National Committee into declaring him a “presumptive nominee,” saying that he would rather beat Nikki Haley at the ballot box the “old-fashioned way.
“While I greatly appreciate the Republican National Committee (RNC) wanting to make me their PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE, and while they have far more votes than necessary to do it, I feel, for the sake of PARTY UNITY, that they should NOT go forward with this plan, but that I should do it the ‘Old Fashioned’ way, and finish the process off AT THE BALLOT BOX. Thank you to the RNC for the Respect and Devotion you have shown me! TRUMP2024,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website.
Trump’s statement counters the initiatives spearheaded by David Bossie, a former aide to his campaign and a member of the RNC committee. Bossie has been advocating for Republicans to unite behind the former president, even though the primary is still ongoing, Fox News noted.
Haley, the former U.N. Ambassador, is increasingly being urged to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race due to mounting demands. The Republican National Committee (RNC) came close to considering a resolution that would declare Trump as the party’s presumed nominee.
The RNC was scheduled to deliberate on a resolution that, if ratified, would have officially designated Trump as the party’s presumptive nominee for the presidential election in 2024. Fox News Digital acquired a copy of the resolution on Thursday, but it was subsequently retracted.
