PART 2 At the family reunion, my dad said, “I’m proud of my sons… but you?

My father Franklin Camden had spent my entire life completely ignoring my achievements while intensely favoring my brothers Colton and Derek. When I was a  child I would handcraft thoughtful  gifts for Father’s Day only to watch him dismiss my sincere efforts while celebrating my brothers for offering simple store bought items.

 

He proudly supported my brothers during their athletics and expensive ski trips but openly dismissed my straight A grades and accounting internship. When I proudly announced my new  software startup at our Thanksgiving dinner he completely ignored my success and immediately changed the subject to praise my brother’s real estate deal.

I accepted that his approval would never arrive so I used his neglect to silently fuel my own massive success in software development. During the pandemic shutdown my workflow automation platform Helix Frame experienced explosive growth and quickly secured venture capital funding while my family remained completely unaware. When I discovered his struggling employer Mountain Tech Solutions was seeking a buyer I created an anonymous holding company and successfully acquired eighty one percent of the business. I intentionally allowed him to continue working under my new ownership for months while he remained totally oblivious that I was his ultimate superior.
