FRONT BBC host Beccy Barr has died after a long battle with cancer. She quit her job as a TV host to become a firefighter.
In 2019, Lancaster-based Ms. Barr said she was leaving journalism after 20 years to work for Lancashire Fire and Rescue, the same company that her father Roy worked for.
She shared on social media in February 2022 the good news that she had received distinctions in all of her end-point assessments, which included the practical, theoretical, and interview parts.
But Ms. Barr later told everyone in December of last year that she had been diagnosed with “incurable cancer,” which was very sad.
Her writing said, “Two lessons I’ve learned from this clearly less-than-ideal experience: 1) Life is crazy.” 2) It’s amazing how much love, care, and friendship people can have for each other.
Her family told the world about her death on the social networking site X earlier today.
It was posted on her account at 2:15pm: “I am very sorry to say that Beccy died peacefully this morning.”
“She spent her last few days at @SJHospice, where she and her family received the kindest and most respectful care.”
“Donations to the hospice can be made in Beccy’s memory.”
When Ms. Barr was in her early 20s, she worked at the Blackpool Citizen. After that, she worked for seven years at BBC’s North West Tonight
