Jennifer Lopez made headlines when she used “they/them” pronouns for her child, Emme, during a performance in Los Angeles. The 54-year-old Grammy winner shared her pride and affection for her 16-year-old while performing at the Dodgers Foundation’s Blue Diamond Gala.
Lopez announced that Emme, one of her twins, would be joining her on stage, humorously noting, “I ask them to sing with me all the time, but they won’t, so this is a very special occasion because they’re very, very busy and booked and pricey.”
Continuing to use gender-neutral pronouns, Lopez added, “They’re worth every single penny because they’re my favorite duet partner of all time.” The mother-daughter duo then delivered a beautiful rendition of Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years,” with Emme dressed in hot pink and Lopez dazzling in turquoise.
Lopez shares Emme and her son Maximilian with ex-husband Marc Anthony. The twins celebrated their birthday in February, prompting Lopez to express deep gratitude on Instagram, saying they had transformed her life in the most amazing way.
Since their 2014 divorce, Lopez and Anthony have co-parented effectively, while her current husband, Ben Affleck, has also embraced a paternal role. On Father’s Day, Lopez honored Affleck and her father with heartfelt messages, noticeably excluding Anthony from her tributes.
