It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of beloved actress Connie Chiume at the age of 72. Known for her iconic role in “Black Panther,” Connie Chiume left an indelible mark on the film industry. Her family confirmed her passing on Tuesday, and we join them in mourning this great loss.

Born in South Africa on June 5, 1952, Connie Chiume began her career as a teacher before delving into the world of acting. Her talent and dedication were recognized early on, and she won the award for Best Actress in a Drama Series at the South African Film and Television Awards for her role in “Soul City” in 2000. She went on to win another SAFTA in 2009 for her outstanding performance in “Zone 14.”

However, it was her role as tribal leader Zawavari in the groundbreaking film “Black Panther” that catapulted her to international fame. Connie Chiume’s portrayal of this strong and wise character resonated with audiences around the world. She reprised her role in the highly anticipated sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

In an interview, Chiume expressed her excitement and gratitude for being part of the Marvel production. She described working with esteemed actors and being directed by the talented Ryan Coogler as an “inspiration.” Her contributions to the film will always be remembered.
