A teenage guitarist stunned a festival audience when he joined a band on stage and performed a classic rock tune. Jake Collinson, 10, visited the Painshill festival in Cobham, Surrey, England, together with his parents. He had a handmade sign that said, “Let Me Play Guitar With You.”
Rick Parfitt Junior, the late Status Quo star’s son, observed the sign while playing with the RPJ Band. Rick read it aloud and warned the crowd, “That’s a bit of a risk.” Curious about Jake’s ability to play, he brought the kid on stage after Jake gladly nodded.
Rick, who had a gig at the Isle of Wight Festival the next night, asked Jake who his favorite band was. Jake reacted with “Guns N’ Roses” and expressed a desire to play “Sweet Child of Mine,” which is recognized for Slash’s legendary guitar solo. Rick was taken aback, asking, “Are you serious?” when Jake’s guitar was brought on stage.
Rick quipped to the audience of around 5,000, “This could either be incredible or… incredible, obviously.” Jake then started playing the song’s entrance and gave an incredible performance that astounded everyone.
Jake shared a video of his performance on his Instagram page, captioned “Can’t believe this happened.” “I think it went well.”
