So much work goes into preparing for hurricanes. This is especially true for particularly dangerous ones like Hurricane Milton. To best know what kind of storm we’ll be dealing with, there are a variety of methods that can be used before they’ve reached land. One way involves Hurricane Hunters — these folks fly planes straight into the storm. That said, not all methods involve humans getting that close to danger.

Another helpful method uses drones from a company called Saildrone. Their partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been instrumental in providing much-needed info on hurricanes for the past four years.
